How the MacBook Air on the M1 processor performed

M1 processor for MacBook Air

Not long ago, the well-known manufacturer of high-quality equipment, Apple, began the transition to personally produced processors. And here it’s immediately worth talking about the new M1 chip. In fact, this is the third time in the brand’s history that it has transitioned its own line of PCs from one processor to another. And the last example turned out to be quite successful, so the release of M1 was not long in coming.

Equipment for the new device

In the box, along with the device itself, there is a power supply; it is quite small and only 30 W; there is also a charging cable with a similar connector.

That is, minimal equipment, which is usual for numerous models of this type.

Appearance and materials

The first model was presented back in 2008, and Jobs spoke in detail about the reasons for its appearance.

At that time, even compact laptop models were quite thick, and 11- or 12-inch displays were used to reduce weight. So the keyboard required is not so massive.

Over time, the company saw an opportunity to create a lighter 13.3-inch laptop with a full-length keyboard. Even with some problems, the main one being the heating of the case, the MacBook Air M1 has become a cult device, which influenced the appearance of modern devices.

As for the design of the new model, the manufacturer decided not to experiment, especially since several years ago the main problem was fixed – the butterfly keyboard. The device now has a scissor Magic Keyboard.

In fact, the materials have remained unchanged; this is an all-aluminum body panel, which is also covered from below by a removable aluminum cover. All structural elements are fitted as tightly as possible, and therefore the body is not pressed through.

The screen has a special protective glass, but only the frames near the matrix are not the thinnest at the moment, although this is not particularly noticeable. In fact, there is nothing new in the appearance of the device.

Display

As already mentioned, there is a 13.3-inch LED-backlit display, and the resolution is 2560×1600 pixels in a 16:10 ratio.

The special feature is that there is a True Tone mode, thanks to which the color temperature of the screen adapts to the environment.

M1 processor

This is a 5-nanometer and 8-core chip with a 4+4 design, where there are 4 performance cores. Frequency from 600 to 3204 MHz. Modern technologies have made it possible to fit 16 billion transistors on a chip, which is much more than numerous competitors.

It’s important to note that the M1 is a proprietary system on a chip, and it includes integrated graphics cores. And it also uses unified memory technology.

Performance

Of course, a number of tests were carried out, which suggests that the device is quite productive, especially considering its size.

If you take work on the network, with folders and files, messengers, then the work is smooth and fast, interaction is instant. In fact, experienced users understand that this system really flies.

Considering that such a model is in most cases used as a typewriter, it performs its assigned functions perfectly. Although it can also be used for programming or editing 4K video. This is a bit suitable for games as well.
