Apple M3 leaks + Mac product line roadmap for 2022-2024

M3 processor leaks

Apple is renowned for often implementing some pretty revolutionary ideas. One impressive move was to go from an 8-core chip and GPU to 20-core and 64-core respectively. So the M1 Ultra, which has only recently come to light, outperforms its ancestor the M1 (introduced in 2020) by almost 8x in speed.

According to the latest leaks, this year won’t be without an impressive new product either. The company is set to unveil the M2 chip in the summer, which will include an 8-core processor and a 10-core GPU. But even here Apple decided not to stop and is already preparing the next development called M3, the release of which is tentatively due in 2023-24 years.

What we know about M3 chip

It is reported that “Apple” experts are busy developing two different prototypes of the future chip at once. The first one includes an 8-core processor and a 10-core graphics processor, while the second will get both 10-core. The difference between the upcoming new products is believed to be due to Apple’s desire to make the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro more different.

According to unconfirmed reports, the company intends to start production of the new product in Q2 2023. A release is scheduled for the fourth quarter of that year. Along with M3, there will be versions like M3 Pro, M3 Max and M3 Ultra.

The company’s plans for future Mac models

To begin with, it should be clarified that the company has often changed or postponed its designs. Therefore, the current leaks could tell a potential variant. First of all, Apple is preparing to unveil two new Mac M2s at the Worldwide Developers Conference, which will be held this summer. It’s certainly possible that a release could take place in May, but that’s unlikely.

One of the new products is the Mac mini. The other could be a 24-inch iMac or a 13-inch MacBook Pro. According to previous rumours, both devices should be ready by this time, but the question is whether the company will want to release them at the same time.

The apple giant is also planning to swap the M1 Pro Mac mini for the M2 Pro Mac mini. In fact, the developers only need to replace the processor, which makes it possible to ship by August this year, which means an official release could take place as early as autumn. The new device will come in place of the Intel Mac mini.

Another leak states that a Mac Pro with two M1 Ultra chips (though it could be four) could be released. It will also feature a 27-inch mini LED display using ProMotion technology.

The MacBook Air M2 is expected to be released later this year. The assembly process is coming to an end and hence there are unlikely to be any delays. The device will be different from its predecessors due to the colours and the presence of white bezels. It will have less thickness as well as a MagSafe connector, USB-C and audio.

In terms of plans for 2023-2024, it’s possible that the iMac Pro could come out just in that interval, rather than 2022. But its display with ProMotion technology will be shown to the public this year.
